What a weekend! The Francis Scott Key Family Resort helped to host the annual OC Half Marathon Post Race Party! Over 800 runners participated in the event that is typically held every April! Getting so close we can almost taste the HAMBURGERS and FRENCH FRIES! The Route 50 Diner along with the Francis Scott Key Family Resort are almost ready to unveil their renovations, improvements, and changes to the public! As of last weekend, the "new" front desk is now in use! Guests were greeted when they walked through the door to a boardwalk entrance to the beachstand front desk! Blue and yellow walls and floors made the lobby feel a little more cozier and warm. Soon children can take a seat on our adirondack chairs while their parents check-in! The Route 50 Diner has been meeting with food vendors - it's been fun sampling possible menu items! All renovations are scheduled to be complete by May 1st and the restaurant/diner is due to open May 7th weekend! Stay tuned.........

Beach Lacrosse Festival

June 11th the Beach Lacrosse Festival comes to Ocean City, Maryland and many lacrosse teams will be staying at our resort. The tournament has been going on for several years now and continues to grow in size. The Francis Scott Key Family Resort is proud to be housing the Kent Island Storm, Cobra Lacrosse, Diamondbacks, Hot Stix, and the Freedom Patriots this year! Teams will be competing at the Most Blessed Sacrament School Field, the Berlin Intermediate School Field, and many other fields in the nearby area. We wish them success as they venture to championships!

Route 50 Diner - Signature Burgers, Shakes, Fries, and Fun is almost completed! New equipment is here, booth style seating arrived, our new hostess stand is here, and we are hiring a kitchen manager! A lot of taken place inside the diner area in the past few weeks. We plan to open the Route 50 Diner in May! The menu will consist of burgers, hand cut fries, milkshakes, beer, and a variety of appetizers and salads. Breakfast will be served all day and feature pancakes, french toast, eggs, breakfast meats, and more! Our new front desk is being constructed. It will look like a California Beach Stand that you would have seen from the 1950's and 1960's. We are excited to see the finished product. There will be four computer terminals for check-in and check-out. We are hoping for a much quicker check-in process too. Wow! Two weekends in a row! Ocean City, Maryland got hit hard with lots of snow and ice! The Francis Scott Key Family Resort has been busy digging out of the snow but we better hurry as they are calling for another few inches today! Many guests enjoyed staying here even though it was snowing because they were swimming in our Caribbean Key Indoor Pool where it is always 84 degrees and sunny! How neat was it to watch the snow fall outside while you and your family were inside swimming and relaxing in the hot tub! Stay tuned for pictures for the wintery weather at the Key!

Construction / Renovation Update

Hammers are in use at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort. During this past month, we have ripped up many floors in the lodge and are installing new tile in the kitchen. Our kitchen equipment has arrived and is being placed appropriately. Management offices and the new front desk have been framed and insulation is going in. Complete electrical re-wiring is taking place and we have experienced a few scheduled power outages at the front desk this week. Our front desk has temporarily moved to the east side of the property until our new, updated front desk is completed. Currently we have about 60 rooms open on the property as many are closed for renovations and remodeling. All 230 rooms will be open and ready by May. With the Christmas Holidays here as well as the New Year, most school children are out for a little winter break from school. The Francis Scott Key Family Resort in Ocean City, Maryland has been busy especially the Caribbean Key Indoor Pool. Swim with Santa at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort was held this past Saturday from 4pm - 7pm. Nearly 100 people came with toys and money to donate to Toys for Tots. Santa was dressed and waded in the waters of the Caribbean Key indoor pool. Many kids sat on his lap and he listened to what they wanted for Christmas. Photos with Santa will be available online in a few days. Even a few guests won door prizes including a free two night stay at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort! Ho ho ho! Santa will be seeing you again next week for Christmas!

Ho Ho Ho! Santa is coming to the Francis Scott Key Family Resort on December 12th from 4pm - 7pm at the Caribbean Key Indoor Pool. Yes, he will be arriving to play with the children and listen to what each child wants. Have they been naughty or nice? Our annual Swim with Santa helps to raise money and collect toys for Toys for Tots. Each person through the door pays either $4.00 with a new unwrapped toy or $8.00 without a toy. Ocean City has been pounded hard with rain the last 48 hours. In fact, rain caused some leaks into one of our buildings at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort. So since our construction crews can't work outside on a day like this, they are working inside gutting the kitchen for our new diner that is scheduled to open May 2010. Lots of pounding is going on!

This has been an annual event for years and many classic cars and hot rods stay here at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort and all over Ocean City! Marlin Moon Grille has left the building

Marlin Moon Grille served it's last meal on October 4th, 2009 at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort. Their staff is currently working on clearing out their space and emptying their kitchen supplies. The Francis Scott Key Family Resort is going to be taking over the kitchen space and opening a 50's diner. It will be called Route 50 Signature Burgers, Shakes, Fries, & Fun! This new diner that will serve breakfast all day too is scheduled to open May 2010. We are very excited and can't wait to have our guests try out our new restaurant. We do wish the Marlin Moon Grille the best of luck wherever they choose to go!!!

Here it is, the first day of fall. Doesn't seem like it as I look outside the window into Ocean City, Maryland. Sunny skies and temperatures at a comfortable 75 degrees. As the Francis Scott Key Family Resort prepares for our "second season" we enjoy the fact that many activities can still be enjoyed outdoors on our grounds at the resort! Our mini golf course is still open daily - games are FREE now! Also, our picnic pavilion is ready for that end of the season barbeque or crab feast! Our outdoor swimming pool will remain open through this upcoming weekend as we are expecting temperatures in the mid 80s! September is a perfect time to visit Ocean City and our family resort! Maryland / Delaware Hogs at the Beach

In just a few days the MD DE HOGS at the Beach will be here representing chapters from Marlyand and Delaware! This is an annual event each September and over 500 bikers will be in town at The Francis Scott Key Family Resort participating in field events, scenic bike rides, and much more! The event usually starts with a social party on Friday evening and then a fun day at the resort on Saturday with cook out and awards presentation. We are looking forward to this annual group!

The Annual White Marlin Open! This is the largest billfish tournament in the world and is held right here in Ocean City, Maryland from August 3rd - 7th! Right smack in the middle of summer at FSK! Kids are smiling, parents seem happy! We have had pretty decent weather in July - hot and humid. Perfect for building a cardboard box boat and seeing if it will float in the outdoor pool. The kids love to cool off this way! Our two activitiy directors, Amanda and Erin, are eager to help the children build the perfect boat. If kids would like, the girls will help them make bead bracelets or challenge them in a friendly game of volleyball. Ride Across Maryland

May 30th and May 31st was the annual Ride Across Maryland at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort! Over 1,000 motorcycles rode from Columbia, Maryland to the Francis Scott Key Family Resort all in an effort to raise money for breast cancer through the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The bikes and the riders arrived to meals, drinks, and entertainment all on the grounds of the Francis Scott Key! Over $200,000 was raised for breast cancer! This is an annual event at FSK and is sponsored in part by WJZ-TV in Baltimore and Dick Gelfman!

Classic Car Cruisin' Weekend was here and went very well! Many trailers were parked here at our resort and the classic cars were unloaded and parked with their hoods up and engines displayed through the grounds of the Francis Scott Key Family Resort!

It rained a bit yesterday as most guests checked out and many enjoyed a few rounds of miniature golf at Peg Leg Putt Putt! Play is free until June 1st! We got a few new colors of golf balls to add some excitement to the families that compete with one another as to who is the best putter!

Classic Car Cruisin' Weekend

It is that annual time of year again - Classic Car Cruisers are here! They are rolling into town as we speak - nice, fancy cars - the classics!!! We have a good turnout for the event here at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort! Over 76 trailers stay parked on our property and there are usually over 200 classic cars scattered around our grounds with their hoods popped, displaying their engines! Had a pretty successful weekend at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort.....Springfest at the Inlet Parking Lot was in full swing and vendors and crafts were all over as well as a few good concerts each night! This is an annual Ocean City, Maryland event! It is usually a way to kickoff the summer season! Mother's Day was yesterday and we offered complimentary coffee and muffins for those guests staying with us......We want to wish everyone that we missed a Happy Mother's Day!

Our famous locals season is ending here at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort on April 30th....this means we are no longer offering birthday parties at the indoor pool or locals packages until next fall. Typically, this time of year we tend to see our weekday and weekend business increase as we have all of our rooms open and available for rent. Soon many school children will be out of school and will be accompanying their families to the beach for a nice summer vacation!

Earth Day is here....Go Green!
Some tips on going green offered by the Francis Scott Key Family Resort!

1) Use organic cleaning products such as non-toxic vinegar and baking soda. These can clean almost everything in the house
2) Consider a gas-electric hybrid when thinking about your next vehicle purchase. These vehicles combine gas engines with electric motors. By getting more mileage per gallon, you’ll save gasoline and money!
3) Only water your lawn once a week. Landscape your yard with attractive drought-tolerant plants and use mulch to help retain soil moisture. Make sure that sprinklers are watering only the landscaping, not the driveway, sidewalk, or street.
4) Use the right size pot or pan on the stove for the item you’re cooking. Don't preheat your oven except for baking, and cover pots and pans when cooking. Set the refrigerator's temperature to somewhere between 36° and 39° F, and the freezer to somewhere between 0° and 5° F. Make sure to clean the refrigerator coils and switch the refrigerator to its power-miser setting.
5) Avoid using plastic utensils, styrofoam cups, tropical hardwoods, and toys made with pvc plastic within your home!

Good Green Fun Package

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources will be here on Saturday afternoon for a presentation on "Scales & Tails"....live animals will be here and all guests can come and listen and learn about the environment as well. Our own Wild Will (employee of our resort) will be instructing children on how to make a bird feeder out of a two liter reusable soda bottle.....we have all the supplies - all we need is you! Saturday's festivities end with a catch and release fishing contest at our fishin' pond. Prizes will be given! This whole weekend was designed around Earth Day which is April 22nd! The fifth annual Ocean City, MD Half Marathon event will also include the 5 K race. Half Marathon course will remain with the start located at Ocean City Inlet parking lot, leading to the Awesome finish at Assateague Island State Park. The one major change this year will be for the 5 K event. It will take place on the famous Ocean City boardwalk. The race organizers goals are to provide the most enjoyable, scenic courses while maintaining safety as a top priority. The event will take place rain or shine. Race starting area is located along the boardwalk of Ocean City, MD. OC provides plenty of activities to do locally while at the marathon.

Extended Hours at the Caribbean Key

Since Easter has come and gone....local schools are still out for the holiday break! The Francis Scott Key Family Resort decided to extend the hours at the Caribbean Key Indoor Pool this week! The pool still closes at 8pm but opens each day at noon this week! We have children's birthday parties scheduled and our snowcone machine is ready with blue raspberry and other wonderful flavors! All snowcones are $2.00 each! The water temperature is maintained at a wonderful 82 degrees! The raft snake is back and getting a lot of use as that is a popular amusement for the children!

Peg Leg Putt Putt is open too and we are looking for the family with the best high score!

Our Beach Shuttle Service

Our summer beach shuttle service will begin during mid-June and run daily through Labor Day. We decided to start the shuttle at 9am this year since many of our guests are early risers! So, both of our shuttles will run continously from 9am to 10pm each day up until Labor Day! The shuttle departs from our hotel and takes our resort guests to North Division Street in Ocean City which is right next to Tony's Pizza! The last pickup from the boardwalk is at 10pm each night. Strollers and boogie boards are allowed on the shuttle bus provided everyone has a seat. Our friendly Francis Scott Key Family Resort drivers await to take you to a day at the beach!

Rain All Day

We had a gorgeous weekend in Ocean City! The boardwalk was busy and we were sold out Saturday evening. However, it appears that the warm, sunny weather did not last as it has poured down rain and thundered all day today! We have the Ray Engel golf group staying with us and they got rained out today. They have been playing golf and staying at our resort for many years now! Over 40 golfers are here! Many families who are here due to no school for the Easter Vacation found things in Ocean City to do such as bowling, indoor mini golf, and movies! We hope the rain goes away soon! We want the sunshine!

Cast & Crew Staying Here for Movie

The upcoming independent film - the Browncoats: Redemption - has many of the cast and crew staying here at our family resort this weekend and next as they film part of the movie at Frontiertown on Rt.611. The premise of the movie takes place three months after the events on Miranda and we find Captain Laura Matthews and the crew of Redemption unintentionally thrown into a situation that some view as the potential catalyst for the second unified rise of the Independents against the Alliance, since Unification Day. The Alliance is looking for a scape goat for Miranda while those unhappy with the Alliance are looking for a rallying cry to take action. The Francis Scott Key Family Resort survived Aprils Fools Day! No jokes were played on each other here! Maybe we all didn't have time to come up with a good prank to play on our co-workers. Rather we have been working on installing hooks on the back of the bathroom doors in our guest units! Our maintenance team has been on this making sure each room has a hook on the door which our guests said was important to them based on our comment cards submitted this past season! The weekend is fast approaching and we are preparing for almost 100 arrivals on Friday. Many are coming to enjoy the weekend as the boardwalk is almost in full swing again as well as our fantastic, affordable rates we are offering this time of year!

The End of March is Here

March came in like a lion (snow) and is headed out like a lamb (warm, sunny weather)!!! The Francis Scott Key Family Resort is looking forward to April! We are doing some spring cleaning. Our housekeeping team is deep cleaning the rooms that were closed this past winter. In addition, the maintenance staff is repairing odds and ends and working on getting all of our buildings open for May. Our two bedroom vacation homes are scheduled to open in May and they are weekly rentals so please call to get the best deal!

April brings out ourgrounds keepers to begin to rake, mulch, and cut grass! Some flowers will be planted too in prepartion of spring! Peg Leg Putt Putt will remain open daily and our indoor pool is also open daily! Many golf groups are returning to play the most popular courses in Ocean City like River Run, Eagle's Landing, Rum Pointe, and Lighthouse Sound! The new War Admiral at Glen Riddle Farms is also popular for golfing! Earth Day is around the corner and don't forget about our affordable "Good Green Fun" Package at the end of April (April 24th - 26th). We are excited about this spring weather!

Caribbean Key Indoor Pool

Sitting in the rear of our 14 acre property is our Caribbean Key Indoor Pool! It is "always 84 degrees and sunny" back in the pool area at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort! This addition (completed in Summer of 2005) has a wonderful children and family play area. The indoor pool slopes from 6 inches to four feet and has a small waterslide, dumping buckets, spouting whale, volleyball net, and a pipe fall! There is an adult hot tub that overlooks the pool. The deck is decorated with blue and yellow lounge chairs as well as tables for guests to enjoy goodies they bring in. Each night at dusk, a movie plays on our drop-down movie screen! From October 1st - April 30th each year we host pool parties and fundraising events. Please contact our group sales manager for more information! If you've had enough of our pool, you can play in our Arcade which features an air hockey table, claw machines, and more! Bring your quarters for hours of fun! Anyone 18 years of age and over can use our fitness room! The Caribbean Key is most popular when it is snowing as you are relaxing in our water temperatures of 84 degrees.............

Twisters Gymnatics Invitational & Weekend Fun

Twisters Gym in Berlin, Maryland is hosting a Beach Party Invitational on Saturday March 28th and Sunday March 29th! It is a girls meet and they will be competing in various categories such as vault, rings, and floor exercises! We wish them luck! If they aren't too tired, the ones that are staying at our family-friendly resort can come back and swim in our heated indoor pool - The Caribbean Key - until 10pm on Saturday night! Also, the arcade will remain open until 10pm and they just added a new air hockey game to the arcade! Bring your quarters and have some fun! We are hoping for nice weather at the resort so that many guests can enjoy Peg Leg Putt Putt which features 18 holes of family fun and memories! Warm weather is around the corner and we can't wait!

Congratulations to the Marlin Moon Grille who won Maryland's Favorite Restaurant. The Marlin Moon Grille who is owned by Gary Beach is located inside our family resort! They serve delicious food and wonderful drinks and are open 7 days a week in season! In addition to the MMG, Fager's Island won Favorite Bar & Tavern in the state of Maryland at the Restaurant Association Awards Gala this past Monday evening. Ocean City has a lot to be proud of and restaurants such as the above mentioned have been successful for years in this lovely resort community. Frequent guests make these restaurants as well as many other OC favorites popular and award winning! An ever popular nightclub and restaurant in Ocean City is Seacrets and the owner and operator, Leighton Moore, was chosen as Restaurateur of the Year! Congratulations to alll!

Self Check-In Kiosk Has Arrived

We are thrilled to have our new self check-in kiosk for our guests to use! It arrived just a few weeks ago and we have been eager for our guests to use it! It is located in our lobby and you can use it to check in with an exisiting reservation, a walk-in reservation, checkout of your room, or make additional room keys. You just need to have a credit card in order to use it! The kiosk prints directions to your room and dispenses your room keys after you check-in. It's that easy and takes less than 2 minutes to complete the process! If you see a line at the front desk when you arrive, you may wish to use this nice automated process! This kiosk is very similiar to those that you see at the airport! This is just another way that the Francis Scott Key Family Resort is striving to make your stay more relaxing, enjoyable, and stress-free!

We have had a slow start to spring but we are ready for the sun to stay! We had another great weekend of guests enjoying the indoor pool and playing on the playground and putt-putt! We enjoyed having several college golf teams here this past weekend! We are gearing up for our next package in April - Our Good Green Fun Package- on the 24th and 25th. Strap on your running shoes, the Ocean City Half Marathon is returning April 18th 2009. The Francis Scott Key Family Resort has been working closley with Chris Kleebe and his associates at octrirunning.com. The race this year will begin in Ocean City at the inlet. It will travel all the way down Route 611 to Assateague State Park where shuttle service will be provided to return runners to the inlet Parking Lot. The Post Race Party and Awards Ceremony will be held at the Caribbean Key indoor theme pool located at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort. We took advantage of warmer temperatures coupled with wind yesterday to head down to Assateague Island for a quick kite session. I can't be expected to blog about all of the great things Ocean City and the surrounding area has to offer without showing off one of our favorite things to do. Kiteboarding. If you love the water and are looking for a great expereince Assateague and Ocean City are rising as one of the top kitboarding destinations in the country. You can virtually kite with wind from any direction on the shallow, butter smooth waters of our back bays. The wetsuits won't be required much longer as the temperatures rise.

Logo Tournament

The Francis Scott Key was looking to create a new logo for 2009. We found this really cool website called logotournament.com. We were able to describe all of the critera we were looking for in a logo and designers from all over the world could submit their entires. Once entires were submitted we were able to create a dialogue with the designers about the designs we were interested in. The designs were then modified to create what we were looking for. Look for our new logo design coming soon to items in our lobby and online store.
